A very unhappy looking Joseph on duty.

Should Joseph obtain, or already possess magical powers, it's entirely possible he could make armor and weapons such as this manifest.

A Few Ideas
- A Hero Reborn
It's entirely possible to put down his natural sword talent as, not talent, but experience and skill of the past. A hero reborn, so he may walk the earth once again! This could go in many diffrent directions. May or may not posess magical power.
- Demon's Acolyte
Not quite what it sounds like. But should a demon need a servant of some sort, and somehow convince Joseph that their cause is just, he might just join them. He'd definitely have a few terms of his own though.
- Something Went Wrong
Rather than becoming a hero, something may have gone terribly wrong to drive Joseph off that path. He may have become either a dark hero, anti-hero, vigilante, or in the worst-case scenario, a villain.
Joseph Archtstiben
An aspiring young man unseeming in appearance, Joseph has a single goal: To become a hero.
Currently under the employ of the city guard, his lifestyle is unassuming. He lives in the barracks like the others, he patrols the city, and he lends a hand wherever he can. He doesn't own much for himself, and he comes from a normal pesant family. There isn't a thing about his outward appearance that differs much from the norm of most city folk.
However. That boring and usual look of his belies what he really is. He has two unusual traits, and they are as follows.
The first is his determination and drive. The boy had always wanted to be a hero more than anything. Neither his parents, nor even he knew why. It was just known that he wasn't going to give up on that dream, no matter what happened.
His second trait was his uncanny skill with the blade. Any sort of blade put into his hands, he would quickly figure out and learn how to use effectively. But swords were his specialty. While he did indeed become quickly skilled with other weapons, his aptitude for swordplay was unreal. He was a natural. This was discovered when he had, with the guidance of his parents, decided to become a city guard so he could recieve formal training.
Of course, they didn't know that becoming a guard meant that the enlistee would have to serve for years on end. Possibly their entire life. Joseph had no idea either, until he was already through his training. Clearly, this didn't sit that well with him, as it put a huge hamper on his goals.
But it didn't stop the young man. If anything, it only made him temper his resolve to become a hero. It made him want to become a man who would be remembered for generations. He just had to get out of his current situation.
The youth got his chance. One night, when most of the city guard was off duty, Joseph had remained at his post. It was lucky that he did, as a night attack was launched on the city, and few guards were there to defend it. Joseph was one of those few, and he was actually the one to alert the city to it. Not only that, but he alone was also able to fend off a great portion of the attack. And since that night, Joseph began to be recognized around the city and the barracks as possibly the largest contributor to the city's defense.
In light of his deed on that night, he was called in after a time by the captain of the guards for a promotion. But Joseph denied it, and instead requested that he'd rather be released to be a freelancer. His request was granted after some debate, but he was released from formal duty nontheless. The young man then set out to begin his true journey.
